We've always been a fan of the classic black & white checkered floor--it's eye-catching, charming and never goes out of style. So when a friend of ours pointed out Shreve's DIY version at home, we had to take a second look.
Shreve (of Honey Rock Dawn and The Daily Coyote fame) decided to paint her concrete floors out of necessity. They were a bear to clean with one issue in particular--her tamed pet coyote was marking his territory (because of the unforgiving, porous concrete, easy cleanup was not an option). So Shreve decided on a checkered pattern resembling the two shades of red dirt (she also learned this does a great job of hiding muddy paw prints from her furry friends).
