Pairing Modern and Traditional Furniture

Pairing Modern and Traditional Furniture

The one thing I always find myself struggling with when it comes to furniture is how to pair traditional pieces — often family heirlooms — with a more modern setting. My friend, Chancie, is a expert at filling her home with pieces from every era and an inspiration to mix-match-challenged folks like me.

The clean lines of Chancie's modern kitchen are offset by ultra-traditional inherited pieces like her grandmother's huge hutch, rustic country house chairs, and a host mid-century collectibles. It may not be as easy as it seems, but as many a house tour participant has encouraged: buy and keep what you love, then re-arrange, re-arrange, re-arrange and somehow it will all come together.
