There's a tragic irony in the fact that vintage toys and books make such fun decorations (and, er, things to play with and read) for kids' rooms... but parents have the least amount of time to do the necessary scouring of thrift shops for nifty one-of-a-kind finds.
This is why we were so thrilled to see Ohdeedoh reader paperdollsforboys' eponymous vintage shop on Etsy. Her business mantra is "My goal is for you to be over the moon, not only with every purchase, but with your Junkshop & Emporium experience." We are! See our favorite finds below the jump.
As enjoyable as the photos of the shop's wares are the descriptions for each item. Some of our favorites:
Fisher-Price What's In My Pockets Cloth Book
Up for your consideration is this vintage cloth book that explores the wonders of pockets. It says "for boys aged 2-6" but feel free to go crazy and buy it for yourself or for girls aged 3-9.
This is a vintage Dutch puzzle from the early 1950's which depicts a sleeping giant and all his little friends or captives, I can't tell which. There may be a fairytale here I am missing.
The set comes with an elephant, a teddy bear dressed in his night clothes, a bulldog, a bunny rabbit with a pink bow, a rocking horse on wheels, and my personal favorite: an elevator operator monkey inexplicably doing the robot.
Toy wrist watches
This is for 2 toy prize sets comprised of a badge, a tin whistle and a toy wrist watch. These prize sets are made in Japan and snub their noses at Cracker Jack's piddly prizes. Great for display or for the sheriff pilot, in your life, who likes to whistle and is always late! Note: Wrist watch is a toy and does not keep accurate time.
Vintage Children's Fun To Cook Book
For your consideration is this vintage children's cook book. It is chock full of sexist text and yummy recipes! For those of you who cannot afford this piece of culinary history, I have included a photo of "Recipes for All Good Cooks" and "Kitchen Manners for All Cooks". Feel free to download these photos and implement the tips in your own kitchens! My gift to you, sugar!
These are but a few items. Be sure to check out the full set of wares at Paper Dolls for Boys Junkshop & Emporium.
