It’s a match made in homebody heaven: home essentials brand Parachute has just released their own mattress — and, unsurprisingly, it’s a game changer. One of the fastest-growing and most popular lifestyle brands to spring up in the past five years, Parachute previously entered the home goods market with luxury bath towels and bedding at fair prices. Now they’re setting themselves apart from the growing field of digital-first bedding and bath brands with the launch of their very own mattress. They even gave it an ambitious name: it’s simply The Mattress, and it starts at $1,299 for a twin.

But with so much saturation in that market already, can they stand out? Here’s what you need to know:

It’s packed with thousands of coils, not foam. This is the biggest differentiator between this mattress and other popular options on the market. Rather than use several layers of foam, which can lose its shape and support over time, Parachute’s mattress is made up of 13 inches of internal coils for maximum support. The coils vary throughout, with ergonomic “zones” in different areas to focus on specific pressure points. They are also layered: A lower layer of larger pocket coils make up the base, and a top layer of smaller “microcoils” are designed to cushion and support the sleeper.

It’s made of eco-conscious materials. Like Leesa, our editor’s pick for bed-in-a-box mattresses, the Parachute mattress is eco-friendly. It uses no toxic materials in its construction and plenty of good ones. The outer quilting is 100% organic cotton and the inside is stuffed with New Zealand wool, which is both sustainable and temperature-regulating.

Yes, it comes in a box. But you can also test it out yourself in any Parachute store — right now there are locations in NYC, Los Angeles, Portland and San Francisco. If you can’t feel it in person first, no worries — there is a 90 day trial period and a 10 year warranty.

I got to see the mattress firsthand and it definitely measures up to the hype. Comfortable with the proper amount of firmness, it’s clear that the materials used are high-quality and in line with the rest of Parachute’s offerings. The price is on the higher end compared to the mattresses currently owning the market, but the coil support and premium construction makes it worth the investment — plus, with a 10 year warranty, this purchase is one that will stand the test of time.
