My Favorite Room: Living Room
Specs: 198 square feet
My living room is my joy. After years of not knowing how to arrange the furniture around the inconveniently-placed fireplace (it's near the front door!), I feel like I have finally landed on the right layout. Once that got settled, I could dig in and make this the most homey and comfortable room in the house.
My husband and I are both artists, and we collect art, too. I wanted one wall in this room that showcased the talents of friends and family. Nobody ever tells you quite how long it takes to hang a handful of pieces in a gallery wall! (Answer: hours and hours to get it right.) We also own a lot of antiques so a few key pieces made it into the space - namely the old library desk from our hometown's first public library (as a landing spot at the front door) and a plaid wool car blanket from my great-uncle's first car - a Model T Ford.
I naturally gravitate towards more minimalist and modern furniture and plain fabrics, so I decided to go against my tendency and re-upholstered the Tove & Edvard Kindt-Larsen lounge chair in an awesome sixties-esque fabric that took it to a new level. It is my favorite new addition to the space.
I love how my living room is welcoming and warm. All of the furniture is comfortable. It is arranged to support small gatherings of friends for drinks and games, or deep conversations late into the night. Everything on the walls has meaning and comes from the talented hands of friends and family. Everyone who comes to our home says it has a great vibe, a homey atmosphere, and suits us exactly right. I can't think of a better compliment.
