P.E. Guerin: Decorative Hardware

Please go to our new link for P.E. Guerin.

For the home that has everything. Spotted this week in MUG, a very nice description of P.E. Guerin, which makes and sells decorative hardware - everything from doorknobs to towel racks to bathtub faucets to drawer pulls - all on the very highest end.

Guerin is an actual foundry where the "artistic hardware," as they call it, is cast and chased using traditional methods. After the metal piece is formed in a sand mold, it spends time in the hands of chasers, craftspeople whose tool kit is composed of 800 tiny chisels. They work on each piece intensely to bring up detail and crisp up lines. (MUG)

We had known the name Guerin from passing by the building on Jane Street, but had never known what it was about. It is a good New York story. P.E. Guerin emigrated from France to NYC in 1857, setting up a shop that is still in business today. Guerin is currently owned and run by his great grand nephew, Andrew Ward, and still manufactures hardware on Jane Street as well as in Spain.

P.E. Guerin is a rare gem. If you OWN a home and it is OLD and you want BEAUTIFUL OLD FASHIONED hardware AND you have some CASH, this is a place to remember is in our archive. It is also a good place to get a house gift for the house that has everything. (Thanks, MUG!) MGR
