I'll admit I've been a bit obsessed with finding a place in my home for the Yellena James pendant lamps from Schoolhouse Electric. But the only spot where my husband and I really need more light is in the bedroom, where we lack both bedside tables and reading lamps. Hanging pendants by the bed may be the perfect answer!

This look is just so elegant, and practical too. Hanging the bedside light frees up a ton of room on the night table, where space for water, reading material, alarm clock and so on is at a premium.

We've seen chandeliers hanging at the bedside (check out this great post for more); drum shades and glass pendants are less common, but the effect is equally lovely. A pair of drum shades has a sleek, modern look, and glass pendants (like my beloved Yellena James series!!) give off soft, clean light... perfect for nighttime reading.

What do you think of hanging bedside lamps? Is this a look you could get behind (or fall asleep beneath)?
