Reclaiming Space with the PerfectMount by Peerless

This month we set out to work on one home improvement project per day, every work day, during our lunch break. Yesterday was spent hanging up artwork, today was scheduled with the goal of finally hanging up our flat panel HDTV onto our bedroom wall. The plan was to regain some surface space ontop of our bedroom dresser using a PerfectMount by Peerless wall mount, today's Daily Find.

We had just one hour to spare, so we set out to make the project as painless as possible, readying a few tools that would be needed: a cordless power drill, wood drill bit, screw driver, stud finder, hand vacuum (for cleanup) and a positive attitude.

The PerfectMount PMA2X2 is rated to hold up screens between the sizes of 10"-40"; our old Samsung was at the far end of the largest permitted, so it was important to use a stud finder to install the mount onto a wood stud. Our budget Black & Decker stud finder let us determine where to mark off for pre-drilling using a small wood bit, followed right after with a larger sized one once we verified our pre-planning was on the money.

Installation is very straight forward, with a two-part system VESA mount which attached onto the back of our television, and there's even a cable management system that hides cables/cords along the mount arm. And don't worry, we didn't run the power cable inside the wall. Most of the time/effort was spent drilling and securing the wall articulating wall unit, but on a scale of 1-10 of difficulty, installing the PerfectMount was a "3" at most, making it a great lunchtime project (the one thing we did note during the process was our older 720p model is HEAVY for just one person to move around; time to upgrade!).

The articulating arm can extend up to 20.1" from the wall and does so very smoothly, offers up to 90 degrees turning to either side, and also retracts to just 3.3" when pushed back as far back against the wall. And now the flat panel is mounted, we've regained the space underneath that was once occupied by the pedestal stand, reducing the television's presence in a fairly small room, while also giving us improved viewing from the bed when we want to chill out to episodes of The Walking Dead . The other reason we needed to do this was to gain some area to install the new Logitech Revue With Google TV system over the weekend for testing. Nothing like some new tech gear to get our behinds in gear!

PerfectMount by Peerless PMA2X2 is available online for $258.
