This 527 Square Foot Pine Flat in France Is What Modern Wine Country Dreams Are Made Of
A space-maximizing combination of windows and high ceilings give this fab fourth-floor tiny apartment in France the appearance of having just as much square footage as it does charm and style. Dubbed the Pine Flat, the 527-square-foot flat was designed by French architecture firm A6A. The cozy pad is located in the country’s world-famous wine region of Bordeaux inside of a 19th century building.
A running design theme throughout the residence is the use of pine (obviously), along with platforms and innovative storage options to create the illusion of more space. For starters, the layout of the apartment is positioned underneath the eaves, an arrangement that adds warmth to the living area. Along the apartment’s lowest is sizeable platform, which not only functions as a storage space that encases the bedroom and sofa, but it also reveals enviable views of the 17th century Église Saint Paul church as well as the rooftop of the Palais de Sport.
The multi-functional theme carries over into the bedroom, which is tucked away behind a pair of wooden doors. Once inside, the various storage options reveal themselves: the library that also doubles as a spot for displaying plants, plus the bed platform that doubles as a set of nightstands. The space also contains a bathroom. Once inside, a wooden step-up platform surrounds the tub, which grants views of the church steeple.
The dining area is a quaint space accentuated with stone and exposed brick. Beneath the slanted ceiling, it has enough room for a dinette set and a kitchen island outfitted with stainless steel doors that open up to storage compartment for groceries, utensils and dishes. The sink is embedded into a varnished concrete countertop.
A pair of openwork doors conceals the refrigerator, while the other leads a bathroom. Above this area is a sleeping area that accommodates two and is accessible by ladder.
