Pioneer Millworks: Recycled, Sustainable Wood Flooring

May 21, 2010

Pioneer Millworks turns salvaged wood into beautiful flooring, siding, and furniture. The wood is salvaged primarily from barns and industrial buildings being demolished, but it occasionally comes from other sources like water tanks, wine vats, shipping crates, and rafts used in the logging industry. They have an incredibly diverse variety of recycled and sustainably harvested wood, including 100% reclaimed Settlers' Plank oak, the colorful Fair Dinkum karri, chestnut, FSC-certified cherry, hard maple, birch, and ash.

A bit more info from the company website:

Reclaimed wood has a beauty that goes far beyond the romance of its story. Noted for the character of its patina, tight growth rings, and varied textures, old growth woods are usually superior to any fresh sawn wood of the same species. It is the reason we take great pains to ensure our craftsmanship is worthy of our storied materials and the builders, architects, designers, and homeowners that choose our products. You'll find our work in fine and funky homes, hotels, restaurants, and retailers around the globe.
