Bloomberg announces Mulchfest 2008 with Rock. Center tree branch as the first to hit the chipper.
Mulchfest is on this weekend, and the Parks Department website has posted the locations and details. If you bring a bag to the 'chipping' locations you may take home as much mulch as you want.
But if you cannot make it to a location, the city is also scheduling curbside tree pickups from January 3rd to the 16th. Details after the jump...
"Sanitation Commissioner John J. Doherty announced today that the Department will begin its annual Christmas tree curbside collection and recycling program on Thursday, January 3, 2008. The program will run through Wednesday, January 16th.
Residents should remove all tree stands, tinsel, lights, and ornaments from holiday trees before they are put out at curbside for removal. Trees must not be placed into plastic bags. Clean, non-bagged Christmas trees that are left at the curb between Thursday, January 3rd and Wednesday, January 16th will be collected, chipped, and then mixed with leaves to make compost. The compost will be processed and subsequently spread upon parks, ball fields, and community gardens throughout the city."
