We can safely say that the following list of most popular cat names of 2019 is something that only people are concerned about, since cats know their names but decide to ignore you. Since we know plenty of fur parents put a ton of thought into choosing suitable cat monikers (from using pet name generators to seeking cat-naming advice from animal experts), let’s dive right into some of this year’s most common cat names as revealed by UK cat homing organization Cats Protection.

To collect this decidedly need-to-know info, Cats Protection surveyed 34,000 human cat parents. The data revealed the top female cat name of the year is Poppy, with Molly and Luna taking second and third place, respectively. The top three male cat names are Oscar, Charlie and Alfie. (Fun but freaky fact: Oscar is also the name of the infamous cat that was creepily accurate at predicting death, although we’re hoping there’s no tie between his, erm, talent and the most popular male cat name).

The survey did, however, highlight a bunch of kitty names inspired by history, plants, food (Couscous the puss puss) and the royal family (Lord Puddington). As for more of the popular monikers, Misty was ranked as the most common for gray cats. White cats are frequently called Casper (presumably the target audience for Target’s haunted house for cats), while Molly is most frequently reserved for Tabby cats.
