Here’s How Much It Would Cost to Rent Your Favorite TV Show Apartment
Having an obsession with movie and television real estate is nothing new. Just ask the thousands of people who still flock to “The Sopranos”‘ fictional house in North Caldwell, New Jersey every year. Due to the current pandemic, most of us aren’t jet-setting around the country in hopes of experiencing the prime real estate in which our favorite shows and movies were filmed.
Luckily, Zumper, a real estate website devoted to rentals, is indulging our guilty pleasure by offering a glimpse at near-identical properties where our favorite leading characters reside on Prime Time. As an added bonus, they even reveal how much it would cost to rent every month so you could live (or at least, dream about) their onscreen life.
Here are six popular TV show apartments and their doppelgänger living spaces:
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (Rent: $28,000)
Midge’s New York Upper West Side digs in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” offer all the best style trends of the late 1950s. In the show, she goes back and forth between her parents’ palatial apartment and her own smaller yet equally regal digs, both in the same building called the Strathmore that is still located at 404 Riverside Drive at 112th Street.
If you want to live in an apartment manse with high ceilings, mahogany doors and walnut paneling, a la Midge, you can rent out this seven-bedroom Upper West Side apartment. But, it will cost you a whopping $28,000 a month. Just a heads up that with this listing, you aren’t going to get her truly vintage kitchen, for better or worse.
“Succession,” the critically acclaimed show following a media mogul and his family, gives us a glimpse into the apartments of Manhattan’s media elite. Shiv, daughter to family patriarch Logan Roy, resides in a sleek and modern TriBeCa apartment with a totally open floor plan featuring two levels, immense windows, a glossy modern kitchen, and even a balcony. You can rent a similar pad with floor-to-ceiling windows, an open kitchen concept, and a lofty, two-level design in the same neighborhood for a cool $12,000 a month.
“Little Fires Everywhere” (Rent: $1,045)
In Hulu’s “Little Fires Everywhere,” the story is supposed to take place in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Kerry Washington’s character Mia rents a small upstairs apartment, and in real life, the two-bedroom apartment with a large living room and full kitchen is located at 2008 La France Avenue in Pasadena. However, if you want to live in Shaker Heights where the show is supposed to take place, you can rent a similarly sparse apartment for just $1,045 a month. Keep in mind that the kitchen cabinets have been updated from wood to white.
“The Flight Attendant” (Rent: $4,000)
Another show set in the Big Apple is “The Flight Attendant,” which was nominated for Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. Kaley Cuoco stars as Cassie, a flight attendant who might have murdered a one-night stand. She spends a lot of time in her friend Ani’s ultramodern SoHo loft, which is oh-so-chic with its high, wood-planked ceilings, and dramatic archways leading to the kitchen and bedroom. And, because anything goes in SoHo, it even features a glass shower located in the middle of the living room. While you might have to do a little renovations to achieve that quirky architectural detail, you can rent a similarly artsy space in SoHo for $4,000 a month, featuring an open floor plan, high ceilings, and lofty windows.
“Grown-ish” (Rent: $3,410)
On “Grown-ish,” Zoey is a college student who trades in the dorms after her freshman year for an off-campus apartment she shares with two roommates in Burbank, CA. The three-bedroom, one-bath space features a balcony and a great room, perfect for hosting parties. You can relive your college years in this three-bedroom apartment in Burbank that’s perfect for all your bright furnishings, plus it offers amenities like a fitness center and a lounge. And, if you split the rent three ways, it will only amount to a little over $1100 per person.
“The Undoing” (Rent: $28,000)
Yet another crave-worthy NYC apartment can be experienced on HBO’s “The Undoing.” Nicole Kidman stars in the show, and she spends a lot of time at her billionaire father’s penthouse apartment located at 1215 Fifth Avenue, on Billionaires’ Row near the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It literally oozes that rich, old money, traditional New York vibe, with room after room of luxurious design details.
If you want to rent something similar, you can snap up this Upper East Side brownstone with dramatically high ceilings, restored original woodwork, and an elegant foyer for $28,000 a month. It isn’t quite as dark and elegant as the one featured on the show, but it’ll do.
