Silhouette China

Silhouette China

There is something so elegant about silhouettes. Named for Etienne de Silhouette, in the 18th and 19th century so-called Silhouettists could make a fortune attending fancy dress balls and cutting silhouettes that captured attendees and elaborate wigs and fancy dress. It's a living!

Today, sadly, we don't have roving bands of talented paper-cutters at the ready to capture our children's adorable profiles, but luckily we do have Jessica Rust and her marvelous personalized ceramic plates. And when we say personal, we mean personal - that is no generic silhouette up there.

You provide a digital photo of your child, and she creates a silhouette and adds the personalized inscription, in that marvelous loopy font.

We also loved the umbrella girl plate. While this one doesn't feature quite as personal a silhouette as the first, it is a charming plate, and would be a great gift.

The plain silhouette is $65.00 for a 10.4" plate; umbrella girl is $20 for an 8" plate, or 4 for $75.00. And if silhouettes aren't your thing, check out the charming family tree plate and platter.
