The Presidio Motel: Santa Barbara's Modern Lodging

Young trendsetters traveling to Palm Springs can be found at the Ace Hotel. Santa Barbara, California, has their own creative community and two young entrepreneurs are making their mark. Kenny Osehan and Chris Sewell own the Presidio Motel in downtown Santa Barbara.

Each room in the motel is outfitted with custom vinyl wall decals that were designed by Stephanie Mansolf and Kat Trajano, who were local University of Santa Barbara students at the time they worked on the Presidio project. The motel has only 16 rooms, each with a similar neutral color palette. However, incorporating the vibrant side chairs and tables with a different custom wall decal for each room makes the most out of the design budget. It also sets the tone or theme for each individual space.

The newest addition to the Presidio Motel is the vintage 1956 completely restored Shasta Trailer. Guests can actually reserve the trailer for their stay at the motel. Complimentary amenities include rental of cruiser bikes and wireless internet. The Presidio Motel will be my choice of stay for my next visit to the serene beach community of Santa Barbara.
