Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released their 2022 holiday card over the weekend, and people have noticed that there’s something different about the couple’s card this year.

Their children, Archie and Lilibet, aren’t included in the image. The card only features a photo of Harry and Meghan, taken at the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Gala on December 7 in New York City.

“Wishing you a joyful holiday season,” the card reads. “From our family to yours, and on behalf of our teams at The Archewell Foundation, Archewell Audio, and Archwell Productions, we wish you health, peace, and a very happy new year!”

With the couple being much talked about due to their Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” it’s possible that they hoped to provide the kids some privacy by not sharing a holiday family photo. In 2021, their card featured a first-ever photo of a newly-born Lilibet, while in 2020 and 2019, their cards featured rare images of Archie.

“If you’re at work and you have a photograph of your child on your desk, and your coworker says, ‘Oh, my gosh, your kid’s so cute. That’s fantastic! Can I see your phone so I can see all the pictures of your child?’ You go, ‘No. This is the picture I’m comfortable sharing with you,’” Markle told Oprah in a 2021 interview, talking about privacy (or lack thereof).

She added: “And then if they double down and say, ‘No, but you already showed me that one. So you have to show me everything. You know what, I’m just gonna hire someone to sit in front of your house, or hide in the bushes and take pictures into your backyard, because you’ve lost your right to privacy… because you shared one image with me.’”

Other members of the royal family went with something more traditional. Last week, Prince William and Kate shared a casual photo with their three children George, Charlotte, and Louis, all taking a stroll outside their home in Norfolk, England.

Their caption reads: “Sharing a new picture of the family for this year’s Christmas card!”
