This Scottish Island For Sale Has Been Uninhabited for 84 Years

Need an escape? How about a 63.75 acre private island in Scotland? Oh, and lucky you, it’s been uninhabited for over 80 years. Plus, it can be had for a relative steal: they’re entertaining offers over £250,000 (about $350,900).

Linga Island is home to sheep and plenty of natural beauty, but no people since 1934. If you don’t want to be totally cut off from civilization, the island for sale is close to the mainland in the “scenic and sheltered” Vaila Sound, and year round access is available.

There’s one big catch: there is currently no inhabitable buildings on the property. There are some roofless stone cottages, but the local planning board has already approved some upgrades to the island. According to the listing:

This is an exciting development opportunity with the island having planning consent for the building of a pier and storage shed with reception area, new agricultural buildings, a two acre loch with traditional watermill as well as the rebuilding of the two derelict cottages and the erection of a new cottage. The planning consent also includes a windmill and solar panels for power, septic tanks with reed beds for sewage and rainwater capture from the cottage and shed roofs to provide the fresh water supply making it ECO friendly and energy efficient.

Despite being the northernmost island grouping in the British Isles and being closer to Norway than mainland Scotland, the weather in Shetland isn’t as cold as one might expect, varying between averages of 38 degrees Fahrenheit in January to 54 degrees in July.
