If a plain old electric assist bike isn't exciting enough for you, check out the Pterosail. This human, wind and solar powered recumbent trike keeps its rider close to the ground for ultimate efficiency. To demonstrate the green technology, one of these is currently traversing the US, a journey that is expected to last between six and eight weeks, depending on wind.

Made from carbon fiber and aluminum, the vehicle weighs in at an impressive 40 kilograms (the non-solar powered version. The trip is already underway, with updates being posted online.

Pterosail Trike Systems has sponsored this trip to showcase their green technology. Not only can the bike be powered via a human, wind, solar or combination thereof, but the bike can even store power generated from the wind into batteries to assist with pedaling when the wind subsides.
