Re(al)view: Acme Made “Clyde City” Laptop Bag
After weeks of nowhere to go, we finally had an opportunity to put the Acme Made “Clyde City” laptop bag through the stresses of a trade show while lugging around a 15″ laptop, a DSLR, iPhone, press material and an assortment of miscellaneous items that we thought we might need during our couple days at CES. Inside and out, this bag proved itself over the weekend to be a comfortable and useful on-the-go over the shoulder companion…
Made of “ballistic” water-resistant nylon shell, the Clyde carried the load easily, and made reaching in and out of the bag even easier thanks to several zippered and velcro storage options; if there is a bag that has a place for everything, this is it. The exterior design is handsomely put together, with a diagonal zippered outer flap pocket which we used in conjunction with a backside magazine pocket for the numerous press/product material we picked up at the show. Inside is a vibrant orange lining and easy to get to laptop sleeve (accommodates most 17″ models), which locks your trusty computing companion into place with a strong velcro flap, nicely emblazoned with the Acme Made logo (there’s plenty of small details like this that make the bag a joy to both use and look at). A sturdy-comfortable rubber gel top grip offers utilitarian comfort when carrying the Clyde City like a briefcase, but for the most part we wore it around our shoulder for several hours at a time.
Thanks to the wide and flexible shoulder strap (with a beefy and easy to use adjusting length latch), weight distribution was comfortably managed while worn, and considering the foot mileage we put on during the show, we were pleasantly surprised that there was only modest shoulder/neck stress despite the heft of our carrying load. The top notch stitching and thick construction held up against the swinging and banging around that happened throughout the show, and comfortably so. Like Acme Made’s Kate Laptop Bag, the Clyde City is a smart and stylish choice for the laptop lugging set who doesn’t necessarily want to look like their carrying a laptop, offering storage options galore (but mostly hidden away, which is notable for security). The Clyde City is available in two colours, Chili Pepper and Black, for $99.99.
