How To Remove Wax from a Tablecloth

If you use candle sticks occasionally, you're bound to end up with wax on your tablecloths. It's happened to me a few times. But don't despair, there's no need to buy a new tablecloth. Just follow these easy steps to get the wax out.

While dry cleaning will remove the wax, it's expensive, not very green, and isn't something you can do yourself. Save that for a last resort if these steps don't work.

  1. Use an ice cube to freeze the wax, or just stick the table cloth in the freezer. Once the wax is fully hardened and cold, it's easier to scrape off. Scrape as much off as possible.
  2. Place several thicknesses of paper towels on both sides of the cloth and iron both sides on low. The wax should melt into the paper towels. Replace the paper towels as they become saturated with wax.
  3. Finally, you can pour boiling water through the table cloth to get the last bits out, which will wash away the stain as it melts
