Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: I purchased this house five years ago, and my intention was to renovate every single room in the house, and I’ve pretty much done that. It’s a three-bedroom, two-bath, 1700-square-foot Ranch house with a finished basement and I have a creek in my backyard, which is a natural noise machine.
I love this house, and I love what I’ve been able to create as I’ve renovated. I’ve done a lot of DIY projects and some that I have hired out, and at the end of the day, everything flows really well, and it just looks like me.
I’m a black female, and as soon as you enter my home you will see that reflected in not only the art that I display, but some of the fabrics I use as well as my diaspora mask wall. I tend to prefer neutral color palettes not only in home interiors, but in fashion as well.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: A global layered vibe
What is your favorite room and why? I recently renovated my basement, and I turned a room into a gym because COVID shut everything down. I really love my gym, and I spend a lot of time there.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I mix a lot of vintage with new, and the last thing I bought for my home was a marble box from Target.
Any advice for creating a home you love? I recommend really living in your home to find out how you’re going to use each room before doing large renovations or expensive purchases. I find once you live in a space, you give yourself a chance to really visualize how best to make your space serve you.
