Lately we've been loving the look of brand-new bathrooms with colorful and/or detailed wall tiles that re-create the look of vintage bathrooms. If you want to get the look in your own bathroom, check out this list of ten sources for brightly colored 4x4 ceramic wall tiles (and trim), sure to set just the right mood in your space.

In making this list I focused particularly on manufacturers of 4 x 4 (or in some cases 4 1/4" by 4 1/4") tile in softer pastels colors — the kind of tile you would see in a vintage bathroom. If you do a little hunting, you'll discover that many of these manufacturers offer the same tiles in hexagons, which are perfect for the floor, and in 3" by 6" rectangles, which are perfect if you want a less strictly vintage look, or if you just love the look of colored subway tile.

Home Depot

A big-box building supply store is definitely your most budget friendly option. Home Depot has an assortment of 4 x 4 ceramic tiles in black, white, and a few colors.

B&W Tile

B&W Tile comes in all kinds of vintage-appropriate colors, and they sell a huge variety of trim pieces as well.

Clay Squared to Infinity

Clay Square makes an assortment of ceramic tiles in mid-century-appropriate colors. They also sell trim pieces, in quite a few different profiles, and accessories like soap dishes and toilet paper holders.

Mission Tile West

Their Revival Classics line includes 4 x 4 wall tile in a variety of colors, and besides the standard bullnose trims they also have trims in a variety of beautiful Art Deco-inspired patterns.

Daltile, one of the biggest US makers of tile, offers Semi-Gloss ceramic wall tile in 4 by 4 squares and in a huge variety of colors. They have trim, like coves and bullnoses, as well. Their Natural Hues collection looks a bit more matte.

Roca Tile

Roca Tile's ceramic wall tile range includes an impressive selection of colors and sizes. They also offer quite a few trim pieces, as well.

American Universal Corp

4 x4 tile in black and white and a rainbow of Florida Art Deco colors that will take you right back to the 80s. They also have 'Art Deco' tiles (with a diagonal stripe pattern), and a beaded border tile, which I haven't seen anywhere else.

Classic Tile

Classic Tile, based in New York, carries 4x4 ceramic wall tile in an assortment of soft pastel colors.

American Olean

American Olean makes 4x4 wall tile in an assortment of colors, in Bright (glossy) and Matte finishes.

Ann Sacks

If you're not going for a strict vintage look, this 4 x 4 tile with a beaded edge could be a great choice for the bathroom. They also have a 4 x 4 field tile that comes in a a range of slightly subdued colors, some with a crackled finish.

Looking vintage-style mosaic floor tile for your upcoming renovation?

In putting together this list I was very indebted to the folks at Retro Renovation, who recommended many of these sources for 4 x 4 tile. Check out their very thorough list for more local suppliers, as well as smaller outfits that have stocks of vintage tile.
