You Will Soon Be Able to Airbnb Inside Rockefeller Center
Rockefeller Center is a must-see on any New York tourist list, and now you’ll be able to stay there. That’s right: 10 entire floors of a Rockefeller Center office tower in NYC are about to be converted into Airbnb rentals.
The rentable portion of the tower (located at 75 Rockefeller Plaza) will result in roughly 200 units. In order to pull off this high-end lodging transformation, realty company RXR Realty, who is spearheading the building’s happenings, has partnered with Airbnb on things like room design, amenities, and even local experiences.
The units will be apartment-style suites that will come with fully-stocked kitchens, though you might not want to eat in. A new restaurant will be constructed on the ground floor of the building, and grant guests access to Club 75. And for those who are able to book the upper floors of the tower, views of the Empire State Building, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and even the annual Christmas tree lighting will be included.
Although the joint venture is still awaiting some approvals, it’s looking like it’ll go through, especially because the tower is already zoned for commercial use (as opposed to the countless residential buildings throughout New York City that have had to work with much more rigid laws regarding short-term rentals). Suffice it to say: It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this and how it might affect Airbnb’s impact beyond this project, too.
