Florals are a lovely addition to the bedroom. Not only do they tend to soften things up, they of course remind folks of that favorite time of year, spring. But how do you add floral patterns into your home and not make it look outdated? Easy. Update your bedroom with florals in a modern way.

Here are five ways in which you can add florals to your space in a fresh, modern way:

Bold: No surprise here; today's modern florals aren't your grandmother's demure and dainty prints, they are large! Brightly colored! Exotically patterned! And just the sort of floral sure to put some zing in your sleeping space. Get some inspiration from the ones in: Spring Fever: At Home with Floral Patterns.

Dark: The spring season might go hand in hand with darling pastels and soft neutral backgrounds, but don't be afraid to shake up your bedroom with a floral pattern printed on a deep, dark background like black, crimson red or sapphire blue. Need help? We gathered some ideas in: Botanical Noir: Dark Floral Prints

Big: The most fun way to breathe new life into an old pattern is to play with scale, so feel free to press the "enlarge" button on any florals you pull into your bedroom space. Retail stores are a great place to search for this. Find a big pattern like Anthropologie's Coqo Floral Curtain, Pottery Barn Teen's Kensington Floral Duvet, Thomaspaul's Peony Tufted Pile Rug or Aimee Wilder's Pop Floral Wallpaper, to name only a few.

Unexpected: Sure you could put some florals on your bedding, your art, your walls, or your floor, or you could totally surprise yourself by incorporating floral patterns on your lampshades, your accessories, your headboard, or even your ceiling!

Mixing and matching old and new: Play around with bold new floral patterns in bold new places, but don't be afraid to mix in a delicate, vintage-looking floral pattern for an eclectic bohemian mix that fits you perfectly. Find a great mix in: Style Sourcelist: Contemporary Floral Bedding.
