Night owl or early bird? Messy or neat? What temperature do you like thermostat set at? These are all great questions to ask when you’re sussing out compatibility with a potential roommate.

But for the wild card: You may want to ask about your could-be roommate’s zodiac sign (or, if you’re trying to be inconspicuous, inquire about his or her birthday—though an inquisitive Gemini may be onto you if you go this route).

Every sign has signature quirks, astrologists say. So, we asked them to share what you might come to know about your roommates, based on their zodiac signs. Here’s what they have to say:

Aries (March 21 — April 19)

Wish you had a place to call your own, but solo living isn’t in the budget? You may want to seek out an Aries for a roommate.  The first thing you’ll notice about Aries is, well, that they are hardly ever home, says astrologist Aubrey Thorne. Aries likes to keep a packed schedule, whether that’s canvassing the neighborhood for a candidate in a local election, joining intramural sports teams, or catching a live concert or comedy show on a random Tuesday. Although, when they are home, they tend to be a tad loud, Thorne says.

Taurus (April 20 — May 20)

Most of the time, Taurus is pretty chill, says Narayana Montufar, senior astrologer at Astrology.com and Horoscope.com. But, remember this sign’s symbol is a raging bull, which may make a cameo if you don’t properly respect boundaries. What exactly ticks them off?

“Eating their food or grabbing their stuff without permission,” Montufar cautions.

Gemini (May 21 — June 20)

You can always count on the chatty twins to ask you how your day is going. At times, though, the conversation may feel more like an interview. Geminis are incredibly curious, and love to socialize, says astrologist Terry O’Connor, a writer at Astrology 42 and who provides astrological business coaching.

“They are not too fond of alone time,” he says.

Cancer (June 21 — July 22)

You may already know Cancers to be family-oriented. But they also tend to be great cooks, says Montufar. (Hint, hint: Keep Sundays open for a household dinner, courtesy of Cancer). “This is the ‘foodie’ sign,” says Montufar. “Cancers cook better than most chefs and their roommates are very lucky people.”

Leo (July 23 — August 22)

Your duties as a roommate to Leo may involve a lil’ relationship counseling here and there. That’s because Leos are known to have dating drama, Thorne says. But on the upside, this sign certainly knows how to have fun, she says. A key to harmony in the household? Make sure Leo feels “seen and validated,” she says.

Virgo (August 23 — September 22)

Virgos are a bit of a wild card. “They’re either total neat freaks or the exact opposite,” says Thorne.  Either way, they’ll need some space to themselves, she says. Also, since Virgo is an Earth sign, a few plants will make them feel at home, O’Connor says.

Libra (September 23 — October 22)

This probably won’t come as too big of a surprise given the scales are Libra’s symbol, but this sign needs to feel “immersed in balance and peacefulness,” says Thorne. No roommate drama here! You’ll probably also notice lots of friends coming and going, she says. Libras tend to be super social.

Scorpio (October 23 — November 21)

Sure, you may start as roommates. But Scorpio could likely end up as your emergency contact/confidant/biggest ally before your lease is up.

“This is one of the best signs to have on your side,” says Montufar. “If you treat them well, you have a friend for life.” A word of caution, though: Respect their privacy!

Sagittarius (November 22 — December 21)

Fiery and always on-the-move, Sags can be a little flighty, Montufar says. What we’re getting at? Yes, you may need to send a couple Venmo reminders before you get Sag’s share of rent and it’s a good idea to send a Google calendar if the two of you make plans for a dinner out.

Capricorn (December 22 — January 19)

Don’t be surprised if your Capricorn roommate gets booked to give a TED Talk. This is a hard-working, dedicated sign. “You’ll notice their light on late into the night,” says Thorne. “This is someone who loses track of time while working.”

Capricorns also tend to have a dry sense of humor, she says.

Aquarius (January 20 — February 18)

Come election time, you can count on Aquarius to put campaign signs in the front yard or in the window. Political activism is important to this sign, Thorne says. Ruled by Uranus, the planet that governs technology, Aquarius will be able to keep all the household gadgets running smoothly, too.

Pisces (February 19 — March 20)

Compassionate and imaginative, leave some room in the living room for Pisces latest works of art. This whimsical sign may giggle at odd moments, Thorne says. Roommates of Pisces may also notice that their forgetful roommate locks themselves out every now and again or is asking you to check if they left their wallet on the counter.

Which sign is your astrological match when it comes to communal living? Does this align with your roommate experiences?
