Roundup: Ceiling Fans

Roundup: Ceiling Fans

In an effort to use less air conditioning, we want to install two ceiling fans in our home. Of course, the problem has always been finding one that wasn't a complete eye sore. Part of us thinks, "Well, it is only a ceiling fan." while the teeny tiny aesthete inside us whispers, "Pretty! Must get pretty!"

What we want is something simple, clean, without any flowery opaque glass lamp shades and that doesn't look overtly "Kountry" or trying-too-hard modern. We don't mind a fan in white, aluminum or nickel. So does this ceiling fan exist? Is it out there? (We find ourselves drawn to Westinghouse's Industrial fan -- but we're pretty sure it would blow our bed out the window.)

This is what we've found:

The Sonic, by Hunter, is quite unassuming with its white finish and rounded lamp. It seems as though it can blend in to any room pretty easily.

The Como fan, by Minka Aire, features a brushed nickel finish and a halogen light. This one, like the Sonic, also has a dome-shaped lamp and is available in a high-gloss white, as well.

We're on the fence with the Lugano, also by Hunter. We like the rounded fan blades, but there's something about it that is underwhelming us.! Any ideas -- is there a perfect ceiling fan we may have missed?
