Spray Paint Plus a $0 Secret Ingredient Totally Transform this Glass Bowl
We’re going mad for makeovers this month! From home makeovers to smart DIYs to brackets, check out all of our Makeover Madness content here.
Sometimes it takes a little bit of weirdness to inspire the most creative ideas. That’s why, as part of our Makeover Madness Month we knew we wanted to throw a bit of a wild card into the mix. Here’s how the challenge went: For every one of our five DIYers, we mailed a surprise item and a $50 gift card to cover supplies. From there, we let them run wild: They could do anything they wanted (really, anything!), as long as it fit in our budget and used the original item. Round three of Megan’s Mystery Makeover is here!
Our first episode featured a doormat makeover from Chelsea Foy of Lovely Indeed; next, we saw Ashley Basnight of Handmade Haven give a plain wood IKEA stool a luxe upgrade. For this week’s episode, we wanted to give our intrepid DIYer, Meegan Buschor of Mia Interiors, an extra special twist. For her surprise box, we raided our office prop closet and sent over a (very carefully packed) glass bowl. Source: who knows! Cost: who knows! But this silvery painted glass bowl was ready for a new life.
Meegan took one look and saw potential in the bowl’s shape, and knew she wanted to use paint to give it a rustic-y look. After working with two kinds of spray paint, Meegan found her bowl still wasn’t getting the antique, roughed-up vibe she wanted, so she tapped into a secret—and totally free!—ingredient to finish the job.
Check out the video above to see the creative ways Meegan made this bowl look totally at home with her rustic minimalist decor.
