Ryan Murphy’s Bathtub Looks Like It Belongs in an ‘American Horror Story’ Episode
In a June 9 Architectural Digest feature article, Hollywood mogul and mind behind television hits such as “American Horror Story,” “Glee,” “The Politician,” and “Hollywood,” let fans take a peek inside his Los Angeles home. And as one would expect from such a prolific creator, Murphy has filled his home with abstract, unique, and downright strange pieces that seem to fit perfectly with his layered and somewhat outlandish personality.
One such piece is Murphy’s Pele de Tigre marble tub designed by The Haas Brothers. It’s shape and enormity should make it a loud, overbearing piece. However, the way Murphy and AD100 interior designer Pam Shamshiri worked it into the clean, neutral-toned bathroom perfectly encapsulated the “weird monastic hush” Murphy was going for when designing his space, as he wrote for AD.
“All of the furniture—the Rick Owens dining table and bench, the Haas Brothers bathtub sculpture, the Vincenzo De Cotiis sofa, the matted silk shaved Tibetan rugs—are big, bold statements, but in calm natural hues,” he writes.
The Haas Brothers tub itself looks like a set piece from an episode of “AHS” with its creature-like knobs, and at $350,000, it’s more expensive than the average home in the US. Each tub is hand-carved in Portugal from exquisite Pele de Tigre marble, and weighs in at about 5,000 pounds, according to AD.
According to the Haas Brothers’ Instagram account, the tub is affectionately known at the design studio as “Bathy Bates,” which would absolutely be Ryan-Murphy approved as actress Kathy Bates is an “American Horror Story” regular.
Sure, this tub may not be to everyone’s taste. But if anyone was going to feature a Bathy Bates tub smack-dab in the middle of their bathroom, it would absolutely be Ryan Murphy.
