Apartment Therapy’s first Scandi Week might be officially over this year, but that doesn’t mean our love of Scandinavian design has ended. And this lovely, light-filled Swedish home of fashion and interior influencer Ulrika (who Instagrams under the handle, @colorelles) is a beautiful look at colorful, organic modern Scandinavian-inspired design.
“During the first tour of our house, we weren’t blown away; it was in bad shape,” Ulrika confesses. “But the garden! That was love at first sight! It had 12 apple trees, flowers, grass grown wild, and a big area for growing vegetables. We started renovating and today the house has been transformed back to a 1920s style as when it was built. It was hard work, but we love it. We love to have friends and family over and especially for large dinners because I love to set the table.”
Apartment Therapy Survey:
My Style: Our home is a mix of new and old. We love to have furniture and details that are in tune with the house that was built in the 1920s. Some Art Deco, some old Swedish traditional furniture, some new. I love expressive wallpapers, linen, and wooden furniture.
Inspiration: Homes on Instagram that stand out. Not the luxurious ones but the cozy ones. Pictures that put me in a feel-good mood. And it’s mostly great color combos that do that.
Favorite Element: Flowers! I must have flowers all year round in the house and I prefer to pick from the garden or nature.
Biggest Challenge: Choosing! I love furniture, I love stuff. I have to push myself to sell stuff, put away, and give away.
Proudest DIY: Painting the cabinet in my daughter’s room in a beige-gray color and painting the corner cabinet pink in the living room
Biggest Indulgence: I collect old Swedish china. If my husband didn’t tell me to stop buying I would have even more than the 200 dinner plates I have today!
Best Advice: When renovating be careful with details—choose building materials that match the age of the house. Choose a style that matches.
