Color Block. As you’ll notice in several of the Smallest Coolest entries, an open shelf/cabinet is a great way to divide up space, as well as provide storage. If you’re also looking to introduce some fun color, the Self Shelf could be your answer. The Self Shelf is a modular shelve display cabinet designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, for Vitra. Michael Silverberg at Metropolis described it as “Updating the look of Charlotte Perriand’s 1952 Mexique bookcase“, the Self Shelf features brightly colored translucent sliding doors and a polycarbonate frame.

Assembly is easy since there are only two elements to it, the horizontal frame and the vertical dividing walls. You can arrange it in several configurations without tools, and can be closed, open, or accessed from both sides. More info here, and available here.
