Setting Up a New Home: Newlyweds

Ahh, wedded bliss. Being newly married I can attest that it's an exciting time in life. But, even though I lived with with my husband several years before we made it official, we still continuously work on navigating our individual styles while living a harmonious life together. Newlyweds combining households can be challenging, but these house tours show us how it's done!

Top Row:
1. Anna & Jon's Santa Barbara Craftsman Home: "We are on a tight budget and so we do most of our projects out of things we already have or we can find on craigslist. I have repurposed so many things in this house, sometimes I forget what the original purpose was."
2. Adam & Vanessa's Newlywed Home: "My wife and I are newly married and happily at home in our 500 sq. foot apartment. We hope our simple style reflects our friendship, gratitude, and deep love for one another."
3. Peter & Margaret's Happy-Making Music-Loving Home: "Being newlyweds, this was our first home together and pretty much furnished the entire place from scratch. Our challenge was to efficiently fill the space with not too much, while making it feel cozy and fun."
4. Giovan & Chloe's Urban Vintage Loft: Chloe, a fashion designer and Giovan, a musician, both have a knack for finding random throwaways and refurbishing them into useful household products or decor... Together this newly married couple is embracing the idea of their dream loft and they are not afraid of color and texture in their design.
5. Ryan's Stunning San Francisco Remodel: Newlyweds Ryan and Tim moved into a beautiful home on Guerrero St. in San Francisco, and with Ryan's love of cooking and talents as a chef, the first order of business was to remodel the kitchen into a more functional space, drenched in natural light. Planning a wedding and remaking a kitchen were quite tall tasks to tackle simultaneously but they pulled both events off in spades!

Bottom Row:
6. Ben and Joanne's Sweet First Home: Newlyweds and new graduates (Joanne's an artist), the couple has been truly thoughtful about their space and smart with their budget. Being resourceful while keeping the integrity of their design style (like their amazing DIY credenza), they created a lovely home that works for them in a gated neighborhood of tract homes.
7. Trace & Lisa's Eclectic Life on Capitol Hill: Lisa is also a sucker for a quirky touch. When husband Trace brought home a bear skull his grandfather dug out of the basement, Lisa did not bat an eye. She simply added it to her bedroom nightstand, atop her best fashion magazines.
8. Mark & Corissa's Contemporary Railroad Flat: As newlyweds planning their move to Portsmouth, they decided to sell most of their furniture (read duplicate items) and start anew. They kept only what they couldn't live without and after finding this apartment, bought several new pieces of furniture to accommodate the space.
9. Harmony & Vance's Newlywed Nest: This tour is a fun glimpse inside the home of two creative people (a chef and a graphic designer) starting their lives together... And, while this space has its challenges (a triangular living room has got to be one of the harder layouts to manage that we can imagine!) it is very special to the couple - Harmony tells us that it is where Vance proposed.
