Shannon’s Crafty Place for Everything
Name: Shannon Corbeil
Location: Columbia, Maryland
Years lived in:: 2.5 years
Shannon’s Maryland home office and studio exhibits the hallmarks of a highly organized personality (check out that pegboard!)…a personality that was able to define a functional space with a “place for everything and everything in its place”, but also someone whose room’s charm shines through via her choices in colour, placement of art, and her natural flair for display. There also happens to be a fair amount of home technology in the room, but it’s all stored away mostly out of sight, keeping her connected and productive without it all detracting from the more aesthetic features of her crafty home studio…
My/our style: Functional and playful. I wanted color, organization, and convenience. I have a lot of projects and I want to be able to see and access them easily without the space looking cluttered.
The inspiration for my home office/home theater: I started with the curtains and let color run free in the space.
Favorite element in your space: It’s the only room in the house with gorgeous natural lighting!
Biggest challenge in designing my space: It’s a small space with a lot of items in it, so it’s a challenge to keep it looking neat and uncluttered. Creative storage solutions are key—the white boxes, the decorative suitcase, and even matching fabric bins help keep it streamlined.
What friends say about my space: My friends find the space bright and cheerful—most guests go home with a new painting or craft that they’ve made because it’s just so fun to create in.
Area where there is room for improvement/future projects: Right now the art on the walls consists of the rotation of my unsold paintings; I would like to let my collection of pieces from other artists grow.
Proudest DIY (do it yourself) project: My first real DIY project was making the bright curtains—they were how I learned to use my sewing machine.
Biggest indulgence with respect to my space: My iThings, as I call them (iMac, iPhone, iPad), and the Wacom Tablet. Every time my fiancé buys a new tech toy I find that I need one, too!
Best advice about organizing or incorporating tech into the home: A place for everything and everything in its place!
Dream source for stuff: This is really becoming an all-things-Apple home, but I also want more thrifted finds. I love the look of modern technology with vintage pieces—so classy and unusual!
