AT Boston: Pod - Simple Inspiration in Brookline Village

This is from our Boston finalist, Jeanine. Comment away!

There's a little store in Brookline Village I have to stop in every few weeks just to give myself a jolt of color and inspiration. And to see what's new.

Pod is off-the-beaten-track on Washington Street. Its one of those places where you immediately feel comfortable, like you are in someone's home. Even down to the farm-style screen door and Julie's friendly dog....

Walking in Pod calms and inspires at the same time. Julie has a knack for finding unusual home goods way before they become well known, mixing them with vintage finds, and displaying them like each object was especially chosen to be in just the right spot. Even her colorful displays of painted sawhorses and funky homemade curtains give you ideas how to keep your home decorating style fresh.

I especially love going upstairs to the second floor where the dressing room for the small, carefully-edited selection of clothing makes me smile. Its like an outdoor shower, even down to the showerhead mounted on the wall.

Pod style is a simple, cohesive mix of unpredictable, modern and vintage, and she supports up-and-coming designers too. It feels like every piece in the store was carefully selected, the way we do in our homes.

The merchandise rotates often, so if you fall in love with something and go back later, chances are it might not be there. I wanted to point out a few items like the leather pouf cushions, and when I asked about them, Julie said, oh that's my last one and I can't get them anymore! >>
