Builders Booksource

We love bookstores. Big bookstores, small bookstores, online bookstores ... We love them all. But we love community bookstores most. Bookstores where the staff cares about books and are knowledgeable about the books they sell.

That's probably why we're such huge fans of Builders Booksource -- it's a Bay Area-based bookstore focused almost exclusively on building and design. (But don't worry, you can order online through their web site.)

We've seen the Builders Booksource people at a number of conferences recently, and we've browsed the selection at their store on 4th Street in Berkeley.

They carry all sorts of beautiful coffee table-style books alongside the more serious building code manuals.

They carry books like William McDonough and Michael Braungart Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things, as well as books on performance guidelines for residential building. In other words: Their selection is varied.

And, most relevant to us, they carry a wide array of green building and green design books. We could browse for hours, but right now we have our sights set on Prefabnow and Inside the Not So Big House.

If you can't find what you're looking for online, give Builders Booksource a call (510.845.6874) -- we guarantee they'll help you out.
