Ethnic Loft

Ethnic Loft

There's absolutely nothing like the feeling of stumbling upon a gorgeous and affordable store you never knew existed on a lovely Saturday afternoon. This weekend we had the pleasure of discovering our own local resource for exotic home decor, Ethnic Loft. We enjoyed every minute of walking through the showroom. Considering its unassuming location, we're betting there's a few other Austin residents who have never heard of this store before either! More after the jump...

Promising "world treasures for the home", Ethnic Loft's sunny showroom doesn't disappoint. The senses are overwhelmed with furniture, accessories, statues, wall decor and textiles as soon as you walk through the door. Featuring multiple rooms full of exotic wares, it's a given that you'll find at least something to take home, if even for a gift.

Owner Maria Scelsi (who was born in the Philippines but lived in many exotic places before calling Texas home) opened up the store on the simple premise that she wanted to offer the same gorgeous exotic products found at higher-end retail stores, but at lower and more affordable prices. We were delighted each time we turned a tag over to see a price: Ethnic Loft is a very affordable store.

We especially loved that many pieces in the showroom had meaning or a story to them. Scelsi does some of the shopping during travels herself, or through contacts she made while living overseas. Walking us through the store, she told us story after interesting story about different items, like jewelry made by African woman to raise money for their families, old wooden farming stools and statues with hidden meanings.

Do you live in Austin and have visited Ethnic Loft? Let us know what you think!
