Galerie-Plaisance: Paris, France

To The Trade Dept. We get a good number of catalogues and resources that are to the trade only, and despite their exclusivity we want to get them out there. Starting once a week (Wednesdays), our store listing will be devoted to really good trade resources with the thinking that if you really like it, you can get it through a designer (or perhaps through us).

Galerie-Plaisance came to us by way of the telephone. It rang one afternoon (it never rings), and this sweet, French voice on the other end of the line introduced herself and her store. We asked her if she understood that we were in New York and that our clients don't usually order from France, and she explained that many people do and that perhaps they might when they saw their collection. "Can I send you our portfolio?" She asked. Absolutely.

We have been recieving these beautiful portfolios of select pieces from their collection every 2 months and we have really seen nothing like them in NYC. Specializing in French furniture from the 30's to the 50's, Galerie has a remarkable and stinkingly authentic collection of tables, chairs, storage pieces, lighting, sculpture and Murano glass. Some of the shapes are so out of style that they will probably be priceless in 50 years, and some are just classic and fine (ie. the round oak table with marble top above). If you are among the curious, the aficianado or simply the rich, we think you should check these people out. And don't go entirely on the website (a little hokey), the mailing list is the place to be. MGR
