Store History

  • Founded: 2004
  • Founded by: Brandon Phillips
  • Headquarters: Geneva, NY

We saw these guys at ICFF and really liked their furniture, which is made from reclaimed and sustainably harvested woods in Geneva, New York. After including them in our list of green independent woodworkers, we thought we'd also add them to the store archive. Formerly SMC Furnishings, the company places a strong emphasis on using cast-off, or scrag, wood that larger manufacturers reject.

Because he works by hand, designer Brandon Phillips is able to take wood from the scrag pile and make it into custom pieces that have slightly different dimensions than standard furniture. Brandon works with walnut, oak, and butternut woods that grow in upstate New York. The whole line looks gorgeous thanks to a process of drying and finishing the wood to bring out its inherent beauty.

Select pieces are sold through retailers, like ABC Carpet & Home in New York, or through their website. They also accept commissions and direct retail sales. Prices are in the low thousands and vary depending on the piece: $1,700 to $4,000 for case goods, $2,400 to $2,500 for beds, and $3,400 for a large dining table.
