Over at Designboom, we recently saw a great thermostat that put all of our others to shame. The SilverPAC digital thermostat will let you manage the energy expenditure of your whole house via a color screen.
SilverSTAT 7 was showcased at CES this year and has an interactive touchscreen. It's basically a tool to let you manage the energy usage of your home. You can program the system for a 7-day cycle. This is all managed through the neat 7-inch color display, which can illustrate vividly what is happening in your home.
The system is smart enough to isolate the energy use of specific appliances and it will suggest alternative ideas to help save even more energy. Sounds pretty smart to us! The system has built-in WiFi capability, so it can access your home network. It can also send energy usage to the utility company, which would mean an end to meter readings. However since it's WiFi, it leads us to believe that it can be remotely controlled via the internet, meaning that you could use your iPhone to switch off your heating when you're gone.
It's been shown that any kind of energy managing device can save you up to 30% of your utility bill. We're just wondering how much the SilverSTAT 7 can save you in a year. It's also a digital picture frame, FM radio, and media player. It's got built-in speakers and you can access the net via its touchsreen.
