Renters don’t get much say about the size of their cabinets. If you’re lucky, you’ll find a place with exactly the right amount of storage space you want. Many of us, however, will likely have to make some adjustments, especially in smaller homes or apartments. I’ve been looking for ways to better organize my compact cabinet space, and my under-the-sink cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom are the beasts I have yet to tame. They’re chock-full of cleaning supplies, beauty supplies, and other products I use throughout the week. Simply stuffing the cabinets full is one way to get everything inside, but a smarter method of maximizing the space is to build up. For any standard under-the-sink organizer, the sink’s pipes would be bothersome, but the SimpleHouseware Under Sink 2-Tier Expandable Rack smartly takes them into account.

Both the height and width of the SimpleHouseware organizer rack are adjustable, and there’s a gap between the top shelves to accommodate the pipes so they work with you, not against you. It seems to do the trick, if the near 10,000 5-star Amazon reviews are any indication. “Absolutely blown away with how this product has changed the mess under my kitchen sink! I had so much wasted space,” said one shopper. “This mighty little shelf has made a true transformation! I can instantly see what I need and not waste time and patience digging through the mess. Taking advantage of the vertical space has made such an improvement!”

This sturdy organizing rack is easy to assemble, and one major perk for renters is that it requires no drilling to lock it in place. After you put it together, the rack can be placed into the cabinet however you see fit. One Amazon reviewer said, “It took 30 minutes max [to install], and instructions were clear and easy to understand. It holds lots of supplies and the slats under the items are a nice thickness. Now, I can see everything in a single glance and don’t have to go digging through the storage to find what I need!”

The rack comes with four height level options — 2”, 4”, 9” and 13” from the bottom — and it expands from 15” to 25” in width. “I love the top shelf for rags and sponges,” said another happy customer. “It was really easy to put together and I love that it expands so you can make it larger or smaller. And it’s metal. I thought it was going to be unsteady plastic, so that makes it even better!”

Some reviewers suggested double-checking your cabinet size if you expect to fully extend the rack inside of it. Though it holds a lot of items, it’s worth noting that when the organizer is fully expanded, it slightly weakens in the middle. Due to that, many people tend to push it in a bit to distribute the weight better. Still, it’s proven to be an extremely useful and effective product for keeping the cabinets under the sink free from clutter. “This rack is just great,” said one review, “The bronze color is gorgeous, it goes together in a snap, and it holds a ton of stuff. I have it under my kitchen sink. I love having all the bottles and boxes off the floor of the cabinet, in case of leaks, and it just looks so much nicer now. I’m very glad I bought it.”

In my neverending quest to make my home a bit more tidy, this is an organizer I can absolutely get behind.
