I’m Amanda, an aspiring graphic designer currently attending UC Berkeley Extension’s Professional Program in Graphic Design. I live in Pacific Heights with my boyfriend, John, who works in finance. John moved from his tiny studio in Nob Hill to my slightly less tiny 500-square-foot studio a few months ago, and our goal was to use the space as efficiently as possible.

I think we’ve accomplished this by fitting two dressers in our main room and buying the MALM bed from IKEA with drawers for additional clothing storage. We also found an awesome sofa at West Elm that fits perfectly in our main room, plus we created an “office” in our main room with a desk we found at CB2. We both love how bright our apartment is during the day and that we’re a quick minute walk to Alta Plaza Park when we want to chill on a blanket in the sun.

What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room in our apartment is our main room which serves as our bedroom, living room, and office! I love our clean white bedding and our comfy sofa. I also love the little space where we set up our desk. We strive to keep the space clean and it really keeps the apartment feeling like a sanctuary.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last major purchase we made for our apartment was our desk from CB2. They have a new similar-looking desk in concrete called Marcel, which I love.

If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? I would definitely add a bedroom, but we’ve enjoyed living in a small space together!

Any advice for creating a home you love? If you’re living with a partner, my advice is to work on your home together. Talk about the things you’d really like to include in your home and compromise when you can! We made lists of items we wanted to purchase and projects we wanted to accomplish and worked our way through those when we had free time.

Thanks, Amanda!
