Small Spaces with Big Windows

There are a lot of advantages to living in a small space in the city, but nothing beats an apartment with a great view and ample natural light. A sense that the world extends beyond your own tiny home is so important when you have just a few hundred square feet. The entries from this year's Small Cool contest illustrate this point beautifully...

To make the most of your own home's natural light, there are a few tips we've learned over the years: 1) arrange your furniture so that it doesn't block your view but flows into it, 2) use lightweight window treatments that don't black out the sun, and 3) if you want to make a window will appear larger, hang curtains that extend beyond the frame to cover part of the wall. (Give us your tips for maximizing light in the comments below.)
