SmartShade Aims to Bring Window Covring Control Via iPhone

Call me lazy, I don't care...I LOVE the automatic QMotion window shade I installed onto our apartment bedroom window a couple years ago. The one-button setup is an admitted luxury, but I use the remote controlled shade upon waking every morning, then again every night before bed. But the one thing I wish the battery operated device included: smartphone integration.

The SmartShade lets anyone enjoy the benefits of motorized window shades without even stepping on ladder. Unlike traditional motorized shades, SmartShade converts your EXISTING manual shade into an app-enabled SmartShade. While existing solutions require replacement of the entire roller system or complicated retrofit, SmartShade installs with basic hand tools in minutes.

The beauty of this home automation concept, designed by an NYC brother-brother team, is it can be retrofitted for the common plastic/metal chain used with the ubiquitous roller shade. Tech invention laboratory, Quirky, has the SmartShade marked down as "Chosen" and "Under Consideration", but we're surprised this idea isn't already yet out in the market. Sign me up once it's available...I've got a couple more windows ready to convert to one-button operation.
