SNURK was one of the always-busy booths at the Dutch design and lifestyle show, Woonbeurs Amsterdam. Thanks to its fun, friendly, clever and eye-catching products on display, it had its fair share of visitors every time I walked by. I chatted with one of the partners behind the line, Erik (there he is up there), for a few minutes and heard a bit about the snurkiness...
The SNURK (which means "snore" in Dutch) patterns are photographic representations of familiar textures on a grand scale. From knit/purl to granny squares to cardboard boxes, bare mattresses and a somewhat skinny version of man's best friend, they are an instant statement for your bed (and now, anywhere you can throw a throw pillow).
Around for several years now, the couple behind the business have grown SNURK slowly but surely, expanding the range of patterns and improving their production, print and fabric quality as they go while helping others along the way (proceeds from several designs are donated to foundations for homeless youth). They work on all aspects of the biz, from design, production, sales and shipping to keep things affordable. Erik even poured the wine and passed the cheese at the production party for the crew of ladies who crocheted all those granny squares!
