Soup Studio: Italian Designers with a Sense of Humor

The small group of Italian designers who make up Soup Studios are kicking out designs with a humorous edge. From the rude gesture of their Umberto and Louise coat rack to the funny little Sisyphus mug, Soup Studios is designing products that are whimsical while remaining absolutely stylish.

When I first opened my email and saw the Umberto and Louise coat rack, it was love at first sight. I actually didn't realize it was something that would be considered rude in Italy. I saw the gesture as saying Rock 'n' Roll! Knowing it's a bit naughty makes it all the better. But its appeal isn't just that it's funny - it's equally well designed.

Soup Studio has also designed the Sisyphus mug ("He holds a cup. Forever."), the Post-It desk with removable tabletop sheets of giant sticky notes and the Daiana, which turns an ordinary lamp on its head.
