Speakers Integrated Into Furniture Concepts

Designers Wout Fierens and Miquell van Meelen of Wondering Boys created the Table of Sound for the recent designboom sound innovation design competition. The design didn't win, but we like the concept, if not the ornate aesthetics of a table with integrated speakers. Think of them as giant MP3 player docks you can actually work upon...

The Table of Sound integrates music into your home in a stylish way. Connect virtually any device wirelessly, through the built-in dock or with a regular minijack connection. Pick a color combination and put on some music!

Another entry, the Soundshelf by Witek Stefaniak and Anielka Zdanowicz , is another furniture plus speaker integrated system. Part storage, part audio component:

Why the traditional speaker has to be put away in the corner of the room or hidden in the wall? Speaker could be displaied, and the aditional function could be imparted. The object becomes the item of furniture by a simple arrengement of dvd and books. Two suggestion of shape give the possibility to arrange the interior in the modern style and to achieve a good quality of home video amplification.
