As much as some of us would love to have a spread of solar panels soaking up energy atop our roofs, we're intimidated by the price tag. And rightfully so: a 2-kilowatt system could set you back as much as $18,000.
But what if that price dropped down to around $6,000 ... and then you got a $2,000 federal tax credit? Would your thinking change?
Well, if you live in San Francisco, the possibility of getting a price like that on a solar panel system just got a lot more likely thanks to 1BOG.
Founders Sylvia Ventura and her husband, Dan Barahona (featured in this Saturday's SF Chronicle), started 1BOG (1 Block Off the Grid) after they installed solar panels on their home -- they wanted to make the whole process easier and cheaper for everyone else.
So what does 1BOG do? As a collective bargaining organization, they negotiate prices with solar installers for you -- guaranteeing best prices, terms, and services. And, best of all, the service is free. All you have to do is sign up. Get the whole story at SFGate.com.
