The slow movement has crept into our cooking and our shopping, why not embrace the slow life when it comes to housekeeping, too?

It’s true: You can tackle your spring cleaning—that big, hairy, audacious task that turns up this time each year—without a lot of time or fuss. Focus on one (small) area at a time, and check that thing off your to-do list for the day. That’s our plan this year, and we’re kicking off a super simple spring cleaning program to help walk you through it.

The method: Spend 20 minutes a day tackling one small task. That’s it! Repeat each day and you’ll have your whole home refreshed like magic! Just 20 minutes for 20 days.

TODAY’S 20-MINUTE TASK

Wipe Down Your Trash and Recycling Bins

It’s an oddly satisfying thing to clean something that’s meant to be a little dirty. By tackling what might be the filthiest place in your home first, you’re setting yourself up for success. In fact, you’d be surprised just what a mood-lifter a clean trash bin can be. It’s something you touch every day, and when even the trash is sparkling clean, you’ll be motivated to get started on the next messiest thing. But today, just tackle the bins, then stop!

Take out the trash and recycling as usual, then give the bin(s) a vacuum and wipe down. Your goal is just to get at all of the little crumbs and grime that accumulate over time. Spray the can inside and out with a spray disinfectant, then scrub, rinse and dry.

That’s it for today! Kick back and know that your relaxed spring cleaning is well underway.
