Springtime Shopping Guide: 10 Great Garden Stores from Coast to Coast

Earlier this week I looked at online sources for gardening supplies which, if you don't have a car or you're pressed for time, are great for getting your garden gear. But if your idea of a relaxing Spring Sunday is strolling through a garden center, breathing in the scent of wet soil and planning your own little outdoor space, this list is for you.

  • Jamali Garden Supplies - New York, NY
Located in the Flower Market, this is a great resource for you New York farmers. From pots to garden supplies, they have everything you need to create your own urban garden. They're also a great source for outdoor wedding and party supplies.

  • Jungle Design - Brooklyn, NY
Amanda Mitchell launched Jungle to bring more green spaces to New York. In addition to offering commercial and residential garden design, Jungle also has a great retail store in Williamsburg.

  • Terrain - Glen Mills, PA and Westport, CT
I included Terrain in my roundup of online gardening resources but their two East Coast locations are a must see.

  • Gethsemane Garden Center - Chicago, IL
This extensive garden center on the north edge of the Andersonville neighborhood is like a little urban oasis. It's a family owned business that has had roots in the gardening business for more than 30 years.

  • Jayson Home & Garden - Chicago, IL
During the gardening season Jayson Home turns their courtyard into a lush little plant paradise. And if you want to take the guesswork out of the process, Jayson has a staff of designers who will create custom container gardens.

  • The Natural Gardener - Austin, TX
As Amber reported back after her visit to The Natural Gardener in 2009, "Here's a nursery that is so much more than just a nursery. John Dromgoole's Natural Gardener is chock-full of gorgeous plants, but it's also a place to learn every caveat of organic gardening in Texas."

  • Marina Garden Center - Marina Del Rey, CA
As Laure reported in her original Store Profile, "Located in that tricky area of the MArina right by Lincoln Boulaevard and the 90 Freeway, the Garden Center is huge stocking fruit trees, drought tolerant grasses, succulents, roses, anything you could imagine."

  • Potted - Los Angeles, CA
Mary Gray and Annette Goliti Gutierrez, friends for over 20 years, want to provide indoor style for outdoor spaces. This is a great source for stylish outdoor furniture and containers.

  • Succulence - San Francisco, CA
Jess first visited Succulence back in 2010. She says, "Succulence is cultivated collectively by Frauke Swoboda, Daniel Palmacci, Amy Shelf and Ken Shelf. It is a Bernal Heights hideaway offering supplies for succulent living. And while the main focus is plants, the store also features artwork, tableware, vases and kitchen supplies."

  • Down to Earth Home and Garden - Eugene, OR
This store is so much more than a garden supply shop. In addition to organic plants, seeds, potting soil and fertilizer, Down to Earth offers goods for the whole home, all made from sustainable or recycled materials.

Of course, I couldn't list every great garden store from coast to coast. But you can! Sound off in the comments below and let us know your favorite sources for gardening supplies in your area.
