Starring Roll: Film Reels on Display

In a theater or media room, film reels are a great way to infuse some clever industrial style. But it's easy to cross the line from creative to campy. Here's five rooms— kitchens, a living room and an office among them—that got it right.

  1. Film reels unexpectedly meet open kitchen shelving in this Bucktown, Chicago renovation project from Buckingham Interiors and Design.
  2. Anu of Nalle's House shows off on her blog how she built the DIY audio reel art stand that sits atop this office hutch.
  3. Oversized reels visually anchor the dissappearing bookshelf in this shot of a West Village Studio designed by Leslie Banker, posted to Houzz.
  4. The more the merrier. Film reels team up with starburst decorations to cover a wall in this Houston, Texas, model home designed by Cristi Holcombe and posted to Houzz.
  5. An array of sixteen vintage reels becomes a full-wall installation in the kitchen of Southdown Creative, a Seattle video production company, designed by Lindy Williams Interiors.
