What is the most intimate space in your home? Some might say it's the bathroom, some maybe the bedroom, but I think the most revealing space in your home is your closet. If your clothes are a self that you present to the world, your closet is a space where all your other selves are lying in wait, ready to be put on. So there's a particular thrill when somebody famous shows us their closet — a thrill in looking at that lovely space and all those lovely things, but also in seeing a more personal, and maybe more accessible, side of someone who seems a little untouchable. Sneak with me, if you will, into the closets of 10 very well-known women.
Above: Whitney Port added a beautiful wallpaper to the back wall of her closet, which is a great idea for anyone wanting to add a little excitment, and also a little cohesiveness, to a space that can be boring but also a little bit visually chaotic.
A picture of the closet of Rachel Zoe features lots and lots — truly, a real army — of shoes. (My favorite part is that they're split by an aisle, like guests at a wedding reception. Yeah, I anthropomorphize weird things.)
Olivia Palermo's boho-glam closet, spotted on Stylecaster. Again with the fireplace.
This is designer Monique Lhullier's luxurious closet, spotted on Elle Decor. I know wall-to-wall carpeting is a bit out of vogue, but here it just seems so luxurious. I think it helps that everything in Monique's closet is almost exactly the same shade of pale pale grey, which creates a very soothing effect.
Actress Olivia Munn's closet is a bit more modest, although she still has a pretty impressive collection of shoes.
This elegant mirrored dressing room is part of Lauren Conrad's Beverly Hills penthouse.
Here's a little peek inside the closet of style icon Iris Apfel.
This is the spare room turned closet of former Bachelorette Jillian Harris, who's also a decorator.
The closet of model turned actress Jaime King.
